Chloe’s story

I’m Chloe and I'm 31 years old. I had my daughter in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. I suffer with PTSD due to the birth trauma and it’s extremely hard now as I am expecting my second daughter later this year.

I was in hospital alone until I was 6cm, then my partner was let in to be with me. Unfortunately my daughter became stuck in the birth canal and both mine and her heart rate dropped, which resulted in emergency forceps delivery in theatre. I suffered a major blood loss due to a third-degree tear, episiotomy and a haematoma.

I do not remember my daughter coming into the world. However, the last thing I recall was the doctor saying “we do not have this under control” and lots of people in the room. I remember waking up having my first blood transfusion and seeing my other half feeding her.

Unfortunately, as it was during lockdown my partner was only allowed to stay for 30 minutes then was told to go home.

After the birth I had repeated infections due to my stitches breaking down.

I’ve found help in speaking to midwives and other professionals about my PTSD and also knowing from other mums who have suffered with trauma that I am not alone.
